Police Refusing To Give Update On Charles Polidano Revenge Porn And Bodily Harm Investigation
Malta’s police are refusing to comment on the status of an investigation into construction magnate Charles ‘iċ-Ċaqnu’ Polidano following allegations of threats, bodily harm, and revenge porn.
Polidano was arrested and interrogated by police on Saturday 10th April after an incident related to threats made against a woman close to him.
Lovin Malta sent questions asking whether Polidano would be charged by police, whether he was released on police, and whether investigations remained open. Police refused to answer, citing confidentiality clauses.
The case is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Department and the Gender-Based Violence Unit.
Polidano has had several brushes with the law. In November 2020, he was ordered to settle more than €40 million in tax dues stretching back all the way to the 1990s.
Meanwhile, in January 2021, Polidano was fined €22,000 over animal welfare breaches at his Montekristo Estates zoo in Siggiewi. The year before, Polidano was acquitted of criminal charges related to an incident where a toddler was seriously injured by one of the tigers at the zoo.
In 2006, he also escaped charges of assaulting a lawyer after apologising.
The construction magnate is also linked to breaching tender specifications in the now-defective Ċirkewwa passenger terminal, which he was awarded another €200,000 direct order to carry out upgrades.
