Immediate action from two policemen led to the rescue of an elderly woman from a fire which engulfed her house last Thursday.

At 5.30pm, police were sent to Triq Raymond Caruana where they saw smoke coming out from the residence while they were informed a person was still inside.

The police immediately entered the house and went upstairs and found a 72-year-old woman in a state of panic and seemed unaware of the graved danger she was in due to the smoke present in the house.

The woman had clearly inhaled some smoke and was taken out of the house by the Police and was given medical assistance by members of the Mater Dei emergency team.

A few moments later, members from the Civil Protection Department controlled the fire which appears to have been caused by a candle.
