Police Say Whistleblower’s Labour Voter Fraud Allegations Are ‘Unfounded’ So Far
Police say the whistleblower’s claims that Labour used dead people’s identities for votes are “unfounded” after recent investigations.
Long-time Labour activist Adel Ali Hassan, alleged that the identities of foreign-born Maltese citizens were given to other foreign residents for them to vote for the Labour Party.
This was all made possible, the whistleblower claimed in court, because a number of foreign-born citizens had not been registered as deceased once they died, so their identities could essentially be “transferred” to other foreigners living in Malta, who would then be paid to vote for the Labour Party.
However, police told Times of Malta that the case was only brought to their attention after the claims were made public. To verify, it contacted one of the two lawyers who signed the whistleblower’s court application, as well as the whistleblower
“Up till now, the Police Force has only received details about one person and by which the investigations carried out confirmed that the allegations were unfounded,” the spokesperson said.
Ex-Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship Alex Muscat denied allegations linked to an illegal identity citizenship scheme, as accused by whistleblower Adel Ali Hassan.
Hassan, the former cabinet member said, threatened to smear him after he told him Maltese citizenship was not possible.
