The police were informed that their assistance was needed in Triq il-Frejgatina, after a dog attacked it’s owner and injured him.

At around 10am, police officers immediately went to the scene and from preliminary investigations, it emerged that a man was grievously injured after attempting to separate his two dogs, which had started attacking each other.

One of the dogs, after attacking its owner, ran away from the scene. Since the dog was considered to be dangerous to others, police assistance was requested and, due to the urgency of the situation, officers were forced to shoot the dog.

A medical team was called to the scene to take the injured man to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment where he was certified to be suffering from grievous injuries.

Assistance from the Animal Welfare Directorate was also requested.

Police investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
