Police To Start Patrolling Stretch Of Sliema Promenade From 5am To Midnight

After a series of calls for an increase in police presence in Malta’s crime hot spots, Police are set to start patrolling a stretch of the Sliema promenade from 5am to midnight.
This comes just a week after Sliema Mayor John Pillow faced aggression from a group of public urinators after trying to intervene, having a can thrown at his face.
“The Sliema Local Council would like to announce that after talks with the Prime Minister & Internal Affairs Minister, from Monday 20th June the Police will be patrolling the promenade stretch from the Exiles area to the Strand from 5am to midnight,” the local council said in a statement.
“The Local Council will be holding further talks so as to make sure that patrol times will be extended from midnight to 5am,” it said.
This move is also needed in the light of Paulina Dembska’s murder, which possibly could have been avoided if more police were present on the road.
