Political Shake-Up In Xewkija: Labour To Lose Seat Amid Mayor’s Election Absence
The Labour Party is set to lose at least one seat in the Xewkija local council, with mayor Hubert Saliba not re-contesting the election.
PL is absolutely dominant in Xewkija and currently holds four of its five seats, with the other councillor representing PN.
However, it is only fielding three candidates – deputy mayor Paul Azzopardi, Simona Refalo, and George Zammit – this time around, which means it is set to lose at least one seat in June.
Meanwhile, PN is fielding two candidates – incumbent councillor Jeanelle Attard and Josef Charles Hili – while Laurence Zammit is contesting as an independent candidate.
Lovin Malta has asked Saliba, who works as an aide for Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri, why he isn’t contesting the election but has yet to receive a response.
