Portelli’s Jerma Hotel Development Goes On Sale Without PA Application Or Permits
A massive project at the former Jerma Palace Hotel in Marsaskala which is being fronted by Gozitan developer Joseph Portelli is being sold despite no planning application being submitted as of yet.
Social media has been awash with adverts for the project with prices starting from €290,000 per unit. The project has no permits. However, this is a common practice from Portelli who regularly sells projects before they are even approved.
Direct Properties, Marlene Axiaq, DTX Projects and EstatesDirect are among those promoting the properties. The Shift News attempted to get more information about the project from those promoting it. However, they said information was only being shared in face-to-face meetings.
The former Jerma Palace Hotel in Marsaskala is set to be redeveloped into an eight-storey hotel with 500 rooms, 130 residential apartments, and a public square in front of St. Thomas Tower.
Behind the plans is Portelli, who previously told Times of Malta it’s going to be a “wow-project, God willing”.
The complex will be rising nine metres over the St. Thomas Tower, as the Jerma Palace Hotel development is limited to 32 metres above sea level.
The original Jerma Palace opened in 1982 and closed down in 2007. Since then, the building has been left abandoned while many speculated about its future.
Portelli said the hotel will be operated by an international company but has not disclosed the name.
