Postage Costs Increase As MaltaPost Issues New Domestic And International Prices

Postage rates have gotten a little more expensive after MaltaPost increased both their domestic and international rates.
This was done the basis that MaltaPost was facing major issues impacting the sustainability of the universal postal service.
Changes in prices were made official with the authorization of the Malta Communications Authority (MCA).
As a result, tariffs related to Domestic Single-Piece and Domestic Bulk Mail increased by 7c. Also, tariffs for postcards related to Foreign Outbound Single-Piece tariffs have increased by 39c up to 64c.
The changes were partly owed to the increased digitalisation that came with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brexit and the introduction of VAT on non-EU low-value purchases also negatively impacted inbound parcels, affecting the total revenue.
Further increases in external costs, such as international conveyance costs, Universal Postal Union international terminal dues, and other internal costs, have left the company with no alternative but to increase basic tariffs in order to cope.
