President George Vella has expressed that he “doesn’t exclude anything” regarding signing the proposed abortion law amendments – including going abroad.

Speaking with local journalists earlier today, Vella simply said that there are thousands of possibilities and that he is committed to waiting until he sees the final draft in front of him.

“When there is the finalised information on the amendment, then we will discuss it. It’s too early,” he said.

Asked whether he excludes the possibility of going abroad to avoid signing the law, as he had done with the IVF bill, Vella once again said that he does not exclude anything.

“I don’t exclude anything simply because we are talking about suppositions – when there is the finalised draft of the law approved by Parliament, we will discuss it,” he repeated.

President Vella also broke Republic Day protocol yesterday after he briefly made reference to the ongoing abortion debate that has taken over the nation.

In his address, he expressed hope that the proposed amendments to the current abortion law will address all concerns brought forward.
