President Postpones Visit To London As Adrian Delia Meets Him Again To Call For Prime Minister’s Resignation

President of the Republic George Vella has cancelled a scheduled visit to London in light of the political crisis that has gripped Malta in recent days.
The President’s Office confirmed that Vella has postponed his visit to London “in view of local developments”.
Meanwhile, Opposition leader Adrian Delia has held a meeting with Vella at the President’s Palace in San Anton to make his case about why Prime Minister Joseph Muscat must resign. It is Delia’s second meeting with Vella since businessman Yorgen Fenech was arrested last week as a main suspect in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia. Fenech has since implicated Muscat’s now-former chief of staff Keith Schembri, who was later arrested.
Our country is being held hostage. All those involved in criminality need to be brought to justice. All.

“Our country is being held hostage. All those involved in criminality need to be brought to justice. All,” Delia said in a tweet.
MaltaToday reported today that the Malta Security Services had been tapping the phone of Fenech for at least a year and that Schembri was present for a meeting between the MSS and Muscat in which Fenech was being considered as a main suspect.
Lovin Malta is informed that while Schembri doesn’t feature in Fenech wiretap, his name does appear in recordings which were secretly taken by alleged middleman Melvin Theuma after the assassination had been carried out.
