Prime Minister: I Received A Message That Yorgen Fenech Would Implicate Me Unless I Advised In Favour Of A Pardon
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has reported to the police a message saying that Yorgen Fenech would implicate that he had two telephone calls with him some months back unless he advised in favour of a presidential pardon for the murder suspect.
“No such calls were ever made. This can easily be verified,” Muscat said in a statement. “The Prime Minister already said he met Yorgen Fenech at either social events or at meetings in his role as shareholder of one of the country’s biggest group of companies. The last such encounter was in February 2019.”
“The Prime Minister refused an initial request for pardon by Yorgen Fenech following advice by the Attorney General and the Police Commissioner. The Cabinet refused a second request under similar advice after the Prime Minister withdrew from the meeting.”
“The Prime Minister is not aware of any testimony given yet, as reported in sections of the media, but repudiates any claim made in the fourth version of a testimony after the said pardon was not given for the second time.”
The Prime Minister’s statement made no reference to his own future, following several media reports that he is set to renounce his resignation imminently and the cancellation of a political rally that was supposed to be held in Fgura on Sunday.
