Some of Malta’s top government officials alongside his family and loved ones have sent tributes after the death of a beloved photographer.

Kevin Abela, 44, a husband and father, was known for his calm demeanour, sense of humour and passion for photography.

He worked as a Department of Information photographer after having worked for various Maltese media houses.

His death was met with shock by his loved ones as well as former staff who worked with him.”Can’t believe this, you were so young! RIP my friend, my ex colleague… you were one of a kind  hard working, funny and professional in your job,” said one person.

Prime Minister Robert Abela posted his image, saying: “Rest in peace, Kevin. Thank you for your work with the DOI, work you always did with dedication. Condolences to his family and friends.”

Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg shared an image from the last time he worked with Kevin, praising him for his sense of humour and professionalism.

And DOI shared his image while calling him a “loyal friend”.
