Three Maltese organisations have joined forces to put up banners over gridlock traffic to highlight the major deficiencies in our transport infrastructure.

Moviment Graffiti, Friends of the Earth Malta, and Rota.mt have put up banners in Msida and Marsa with the message, “Prijorità nies, mhux karozzi” (prioritise people, not cars).

The incentive is to promote the use of more inclusive and sustainable transport over the use of private transport.

Graffiti noted around 40 cars are getting added to Maltese roads every day and that 2022 has seen new records, with 26 people killed on the roads and hundreds suffering grievous injuries over the year.

The three organisations are pushing to recognise the need of:

  1. Children and adults to be safe when traveling on foot or with a bike.
  2. Public Transport Services, including ferries, to be more reliable and efficient.
  3. More urban space to be dedicated to communities rather than to the stowing of private vehicles.

“We are therefore reiterating our demands to the relevant authorities to start implementing bold and necessary steps to resolve what has fast become a national crisis.”
