Prosecution In 17 Black Case Declares It Has No More Evidence To Present

As the 17 Black court cases entered its second sitting, the prosecution declared that it has no more evidence to present.
The case against Keith Schembri, Konrad Mizzi, Yorgen Fenech, Mario Pullicino, Paul Apap Bologna, Brian Tonna and Karl Cini was triggered by a magisterial inquiry requested by former PN leader Simon Busuttil and PN MP David Casa.
They have all been charged with money laundering, corruption, trading in influence and criminal association, while Mizzi has also been charged with perjury, and they are pleading not guilty to the charges.
Four companies – Nexia BT, BTI Management Limited, New Energy Supply Limited, and OEGP Limited have also been charged.
The case entered its second sitting in front of Magistrate Rachel Montebello today.
As reported by Times of Malta, Fenech’s defence lawyers requested that the court hear the testimony of an expert from Harbinson Forensics before the magistrate decides whether there is enough prima facie evidence for them to face trial.
However, Montebello turned down this request and argued that the experts could testify at a later stage without prejudicing the case.
The case has been postponed to 27th February, when defence lawyers are expected to make their legal submissions over the prima facie decision.
