Prosecutor From Attorney General’s Office Found Dead In Swieqi Home
A prosecutor from the Attorney General’s office has been found dead in his Swieqi home.
Malta Today has reported that the lawyer, Karl Muscat, 43, was found in his home along Triq Is-Sirk. Reports have since dismissed claims that the house was found “turned upside down”.
Police confirmed with Lovin Malta that a man was found dead but gave no details on his identity.
Police Spokesperson Brandon Pisani later said that they are treating the case as an equivocal death investigation – which are inquiries that are still open to interpretation as police look to determine whether it was an accidental death, homicide or suicide.
He also revealed that relatives of Muscat were the ones to discover him.
Muscat was working on the case involving Ryan Schembri, the owner of the now defunct More Supermarkets.
However, police have told Lovin Malta that the lawyer is believed to have died of natural causes.
An autopsy will still take place and an inquiry, which is being led by Gabriella Vella, has been opened to determine whether there was any foul play.
Our condolences go to Muscat’s family and friends
