Record-breaking athlete and Wave of Change Ambassador Neil Agius has joined forces with Malta’s leading ambassadors for an exciting new campaign to protect our precious sea.

The campaign, which launched today, sees influencers, athletes, foodies, and fashionistas using their voices on social media and other channels to share their Wave of Change challenge and get other people involved.

During the campaign launch event, they’re testing their own limits with an ice bath, yoga, and breathing techniques that bring together the idea that when we take care of our planet, we take care of our own well-being too.

This comes ahead of the announcement of Neil Agius’ next huge swimming challenge which is rumoured to be revealed in the next few weeks!

“It’s time to take the purpose of the swims beyond plastic and cleaning up pollution, to stop it at its source. Together, we’re taking the Wave of Change campaign and our action to the next level. And we believe the best way to inspire and reach more people is through collaborating with other influential people in Malta who want to have a positive impact in Malta, and on our world!,” says Neil Agius, Wave of Change ambassador and world record-breaking athlete.

The main focus of the Wave of Change NGO is to protect, preserve and improve the biggest natural resource around our islands – the Mediterranean Sea. Wave of Change is focused on the interaction between the sea and how our daily choices impact it – either in a positive or negative way.

What started five years ago by asking people in Malta and Gozo to pick up three pieces of plastic, and having huge ripple effects as more people, NGOs, and action took place.

Now, they’re going beyond plastic.

What is this new campaign exactly?

The new Change for Change gives ideas of different choices people can make in their day-to-day lives that will make a positive impact not only on our own well-being but also that of the sea.

We’ve heard about the need to cut our carbon emissions by 45% by the end of 2030 to address climate change.

People can take on simple but effective challenges and through #ChangeforChange they can get creative and be part of a movement of people getting involved and having fun!

And from a one-off challenge, they continue to build new, positive habits beyond the campaign. Let’s make a real lasting impact sparked by this Wave of Change.

There are hundreds of different choices we make every day, so to make it simple, we’re focusing on three pillars:

  1. Dress for change: from clothes swaps to choosing different fabrics, it’s time to share ways we can dress that has less impact on the planet, use fewer resources, and can be disposed of safely, rather than ending up in landfill and our sea.
  2. Eat for Change: We’re not talking about necessarily going vegan. But challenging people to diversify their diet to include more veggies or maybe to eat local or seasonal food that is healthier, cheaper, and more planet-friendly choices.
  3. Live for Change: Whether you choose to use a reusable coffee cup or collect water from your AC to water the plants – there are so many ways we can make sustainable lifestyle choices at home.

When you say you’re IN for the #ChangeforChange campaign – it means:

1.      Completing a Challenge

2.      Prove it on their platform

3.      Share on social media & nominate others

There will be awards for the most creative, most dedicated ambassadors.
