‘Protect The Protesters’: Police Outside Castille Briefed Ahead Of Valletta Protest Tonight As Soldiers Arrive On Scene
Ahead of tonight’s continuing protests in Valletta’s Castille Square, police are currently being briefed on their duty to protect the public.
With tensions flaring once more during the spontaneous protest in the early hours of this morning and protesters being seen fleeing the scene as they were chased down by unknown individuals, the police have reportedly been asked to remember their duties ahead of tonight’s protest.
“They were told to remember that they’re here to protect the protesters as much as the politicians,” one person who was on the scene in Castille earlier today told Lovin Malta.
The briefing came moments after the extensive police barriers which were previously put up all over the square were all moved towards the front of Castille and its steps, effectively reopening access to the square.
At around 4:30pm, a number of soldiers were spotted arriving in Castille Square.
Photos sent in to Lovin Malta show at least one AFM Land Rover and five soldiers spotted outside the square. Witnesses said the soldiers were then seen entering Castille.
