Protestors Spurn Planning Authority’s Tea And Coffee Offer As They Get Ready For Weekend-Long Camp

The Planning Authority has extended an olive branch to a group of activists who have set up camp in its driveway, rolling out a trolley of tea, coffee and water for their benefit.

However, the Movement Graffitti activists have rejected this offer, not wanting to give off a sign that they are in any way indebted to the PA.

“What we want isn’t coffee and tea, what we want is the review of the fuel station policy,” an activist told Lovin Malta.

The activists are symbolically laying siege to the PA’s Floriana headquarters to protest at how long it has been dragging its feet concerning a controversial petrol station policy. They have brought their own food and beverages and plan to camp outside the offices for the entire weekend.

The policy allows the relocation of current petrol stations to land outside development zones as well as the construction of entirely new petrol stations on ODZ land. Environment Minister José Herrera raised concerns about the policy in January 2018 and a PA technical committee finalised a review in November, but nothing has materialised as of yet.
