‘Pudini Biss’: Franco Debono Takes Aim At Zelenskyy And Warns War Will Spread If Poverty Rises
Renowned Maltese lawyer Franco Debono has cautioned against the rise of poverty across Europe as a result of the ongoing energy crisis, calling out Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the process.
“A few months ago, some portrayed Zelensky as a hero because he wore a khaki shirt as though he were in a Sylvester Stallone film,” Debono said.
“Besides the fact that the war is still raging in Ukraine, even though it seems to have slipped people’s minds, the world – particularly Europe – is on the precipice of an energy crisis, the likes of which it has rarely seen.”
“Zelensky is such a hero; he led his country to a war that could easily have been avoided and which resulted in the massacre of his own people, and now Europe is at risk of collapse due to a serious energy crisis triggered by the Ukraine war. What a hero. Pudini biss (nothing but mess-ups)… I had warned you this could happen five months ago.”
Debono’s intervention was met with a mixed response, with some people agreeing with the lawyer and others insisting Europe shouldn’t cower to Vladimir Putin just because the Russian President controls massive gas supplies.
However, Debono argued that Zelensky should have displayed more caution when pushing for Ukraine to join the NATO military alliance so as to avoid the risk of conflict with Russia.
“Malta has every right to join NATO but it has never done so and has always chosen the path of neutrality,” he said. “That’s what Zelensky should have done, and everyone would have lived in peace.”
“Fighting for freedom is good but real life isn’t like a film, and the fact that Zelensky was a comedian before he became a politician may have harmed his decision-making process.”
As energy prices soar across the continent, with Malta only shielded from higher electricity and fuel costs due to significant government intervention, Debono warned the spread of poverty could have deadly consequences.
“The threat of poverty is as big as the threat to freedom; poverty robs people of their dignity and angers them,” he said.
“I disagree with Russia’s invasion but we’re now beyond a stage of pointing fingers. The time has come to understand that we could be at the precipice of war and we must do our utmost to avoid it.”
“My warning is that if poverty keeps rising, then war will spread across Europe. Let’s live in the real world and not the fantasy world of films and comedies and let’s avoid the spread of war. If poverty spreads across Europe due to the energy crisis, then war will spread. History has always shown that to be the case.”
