Malta’s President George Vella opened up about the legacy left by Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her funeral during an interview on CNN.

Following yesterday’s global broadcast of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, a number of dignitaries from around the world opened up about the legacy the 96-year-old left on their countries… and that included Malta’s president.

In an interview after the grand funeral, Vella took the CNN audience on a trip down memory lane, recalling the queen’s “happy days” on the islands.

On the subject of her previous residence in Villa Guardamangia, Vella remembered meeting the queen and how her eyes “lit up” when she found out the villa would be renovated.

“She only did her job, but she did it with the results that we see today,” Vella finished.

Villa Guardamangia holds an important place in Royal Family history as being the only home outside the UK where Queen Elizabeth II used to live.

The late monarch had resided in the Pieta’ building during her early years of marriage to Prince Philip, who was stationed in Malta as a naval officer just after World War II.

Queen Elizabeth II had described her time living in Malta as one of the best moments of her life as it was the only time she could live normally.

However, it fell into disrepair over the years until the government purchased it from its private owners in 2019 with an aim of converting it into a museum.
