Reliving The Sacra Infermeria: New Virtual Museum Inaugurated At Valletta’s MCC

A new virtual museum titled ‘Reliving The Sacra Infermeria’ was inaugurated by Prime Minister Robert Abela earlier today at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.

The concept for this museum was coined five years ago, after visitors kept expressing interest into learning more about the building, which acted as a hospital throughout the Middle Ages.

Despite wanting to launch a museum, the team at MCC did not want to disrupt any ongoing conferences or theatre performances taking place – thus the notion of a virtual museum was birthed.

Visitors will be able to view what went down at this historical hospital at 18 different stations through their phones’ cameras.

The museum also includes a hologram of Grandmaster La Valette, which can be asked a series of questions by curious visitors. This installation will go on to offer insight into how Valletta was built.

Another installation titled ‘Panorama 360’ will give visitors an in-depth explanation of how the Mediterranean Conference Centre changed over time.

Whilst enjoying views of the Grand Harbour, visitors can enjoy a series of digital games immersing users in the times of the Great Siege and World War Two.

The museum will open its doors to the public for the first time on 20th July and will remain open throughout the week from 9am to 5pm. Up until 1st August, entry into the virtual museum will be free.

This incentive will seek to bring more people to the Mediterranean Conference Centre, whilst breathing new life into the lower part of Valletta.
