Reuters Journalist Killed, Six Others Injured By Missiles Fired From Direction Of Israel
A Reuters video journalist was killed in Southern Lebanon when missiles fired from the direction of Israel struck, leaving another six journalists injured.
The journalists, others from Al Jazeera and Agence France-Presse, were close to the Israel border in Alma al-Shaab, where Israeli and Lebanese armed forces have been exchanging fire.
On Friday, Israel’s UN envoy said that the country would investigate.
“We would never want to hit or kill or shoot any journalist that is doing its job. But you know, we’re in a state of war, things might happen.”
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has directly blamed Israel for the attack.
The journalist, Isaam Abdallah, was killed while providing a live video signal for broadcasters, according to Reuters.
The camera was placed on a hillside when an explosion shook the camera. Screams were heard.
Two other Reuters journalists present were wounded and are seeking medical care.
One of them, Maher Nazeh, recalled that the news teams were filming missile fire coming from the direction of Israel when one struck Abdallah who was sitting on a low stone wall near the group. Another missile struck the car being used by the group, setting it aflame.
The Lebanese village Alma Al-Shaab has seen repeated clashes since war erupted between Israel and Hamas, a Palestinian militia.
Israel has ordered 1.1 million to leave Gaza within 24 hours. Thousands have been killed on each side.
