Ride-Hailing App Heetch Stops Malta Operations A Few Months After Launching
French ride-hailing app Heetch has announced it is stopping its Malta operations with immediate effect, only six months after launching on the island.
“Due to unexpected developments since Heetch opened its app in Malta, the decision has been made to close the app with immediate effect and [it] will no longer be operating in Malta,” the team behind the ride-hailing app told drivers in a Telegram chat.
“All payments due to drivers will be paid as usual together with any bonuses that have been earned to date. Should there be anything wrong with your last payment please get in touch with support directly through the app.”
“Thank you for being part of the Heetch team, we wish you all the best in your future endeavours.”
The Heetch app states it is unavailable in Malta while Maltese phone numbers linked to the app are switched off.
Lovin Malta has asked Heetch to clarify exactly why it has decided to leave the island.
Heetch, which also operates in France, Belgium, Angola, Algeria, Morocco, Senegal and the Ivory Coast, launched in Malta last January.
Its arrival to the market came amidst a surge in popularity of cab and ride-hailing apps, joining the likes of eCabs, Bolt, Cool, Ryde, Hicabs and Bonju.
Uber, which is currently under the international spotlight after a lobbyist turned whistleblower called them out for misleading the public, also entered the Maltese market last month.
