Cabinet has approved three projects to regenerate three major buildings, the old fish market, Evans Building and the former Sliema Chalet, Robert Abela announced today.

Abela told journalists today that the projects will take on the form of public-private partnerships and public calls will be issued in this regard.

Plans to regenerate these three buildings were originally announced in the PL’s 2022 election manifesto. Valletta’s Evans Building, which currently houses the public registry, is set to be converted into a “touristic” project, while the old Valletta fish market (pixkerija) will be “regenerated” and the Chalet made “more accessible to visitors and swimmers”.

In 2015, the government had converting the old fish market into a boutique hotel, but it is unknown whether this is still part of the plan.

Abela said the three projects will be “quality” developments and that months of technical work took place behind the scenes in the lead-up to the upcoming public call.
