Robert Abela ‘Never Received Any Reports’ About Marsa Junction Project Corruption Allegations

Prime Minister Robert Abela has stated that he never received any reports hinting at potential corruption in the Marsa Junction Project.
Outside of parliament, Abela told journalists that he never received any reports about it, and he only found out about it through recent reports on local media.
This comes after Times of Malta revealed that the European Public Prosecutor’s Office had begun looking into the matter, and is currently investigating the EU-funded project.
Yorgen Fenech’s involvement in the €40 million project has raised eyebrows after it was revealed that he served as a middleman in this project, and was promised up to €2 million.
Data linking Fenech to this project was revealed when his phone was seized back in 2019, with Fenech currently regarded as a murder suspect in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Turkish contractor Ayhanlar, represented by Fenech, had won the tender for the project to build the flyover back in 2018. However, Ayhanlar was struggling financially, leading to the company filing for debt just weeks later.
Billionaire Robert Yildirim was then brought in to deliver the project after Ayhanlar failed, with Fenech then still demanding he gets his €2 million in success fees. But Yildirim refused, leading Fenech to threaten legal action.
Infrastructure Malta has also claimed that it is unaware of any corruption claims surrounding the project.
