‘When I Was Only 25, You Already Believed In Me’: Roberta Metsola Remembers The Best Of Robert Arrigo
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has touchingly remembered Robert Arrigo in a tribute in the wake of his death earlier today.
In her tribute to former PN deputy leader, Metsola recounted how Arrigo always believed in her from day one – and how she always found him there for her.
“I just lost a friend and a colleague. A man who always believed in me from day one. He always encouraged me, even before I started my political career,” Metsola expressed.
“Robert was there when I organised my first political event back in 2004. I was still 25 years old back then,” she said.
“Month after month, together we met with hundreds of families in Sliema, Gżira, and Msida, among other places. Road by road, with a smile and a joke here and there, always optimistic.”
“Robert taught me that you should never give up. Even when a situation seems difficult, there is always a solution.”
“With him, I could always talk openly. And he would always express what he believed in, in a direct manner,” she said.
“Marina, Alan and Andrew, have courage. I know that this is a difficult moment for the Arrigo family. However, as I’ve always found Robert to be there for me, I will always be there to support your family,” Metsola promised.
She concluded her heartfelt tribute by thanking Robert for all that he has done for the country in his years as a public servant.
Robert had been undergoing several sessions of chemotherapy recently as he battled cancer, with politicians from all sides of the political spectrum offering their support to him during this difficult time.
He served as deputy leader of the Nationalist Party for almost five years.
Rest in Peace Robert Arrigo
