Rosianne Cutajar Takes Aim At The ‘Disgusting’ Hateful Speech A Maltese Director Posted About Roberta Metsola
One of the government’s most outspoken junior ministers has stood up in solidarity with a leading PN MEP who was on the receiving end of a Maltese director’s hateful social media tirade.
“What was written about Roberta Metsola is disgusting,” Rosianne Cujatar said today. “I don’t need to defend her – just like me, she is a woman in politics who has had to develop a thick outer skin and knows how to defend herself well.”
Her comments come after former V18 artistic director Mario Azzopardi, who has been called out for his offensive sexist remarks and before, posted a zoomed-in photo of Metsola with some harsh text over it.
“It is so difficult not to hate this sick woman. How can she sleep at night knowing that the country hates her with a passion? They hate you, Roberta,” Azzopardi said.
Metsola has since clapped back – but now Cutajar, a politician from the other side of the house, has stood beside her; Cutajar herself has frequently been on the receiving end of hateful speech.
“My message is simple: in politics, you debate and bounces ideas off each other. You won’t always agree (I barely agree on anything with Metsola). But offending people and saying they are hated is not acceptable to me,” Cutajar said.
She ended by saying its exactly this type of language and treatment of people that lead to attacks and avoidable injuries.
“This is a lack of civilised debate that leads to hatred and yes, unfortunately, to violence,” she ended. “Let’s not be a part of this.”
As of publishing, Azzopardi has yet to remove his post.
