Rosianne Cutajar Warns KSU ‘Pivoting Towards Censorship’ Instead Of Promoting Abortion Discussion
PL MP Rosianne Cutajar said she is concerned that KSU is “pivoting towards censorship” after it banned Moviment Graffitti from distributing pro-choice material at Freshers’ Week.
“A hundred years backwards,” Cutajar commented as she shared Graffitti’s statement.
Cutajar, one of the only Maltese MPs who has displayed pro-choice sentiments, told Lovin Malta that there is no space for censorship in society in 2024, “let alone within a university institution of an EU member state”.
“There is no place for censorship in our society. But clearly it is alive and well,” Cutajar said.
“It is very worrying that instead of pushing forward opportunities for mature, serious discussion, KSU are instead choosing to pivot towards censorship. The information distributed aimed at providing vital information based on medical facts, and supported by WHO and RCOG (the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists).”
She went on to warn that KSU was applying double standards when dealing with the sensitive topic of abortion.
“It is ironic that KSU seems to have no issue allowing entities to promote practices such as abortion reversal, which are not backed by reputable peer-reviewed studies and can lead to fatal repercussions for pregnant persons,” she said.
“However they seem to have an issue with Moviment Graffitti’s initiative to help continue to close the gap when it comes to services related to reproductive healthcare in Malta. Which is also only possible thanks to the work of many volunteers within the respective organisations.”
