Rubbish Piles Flood Mellieħa Amid The Tourism Season

Article Featured Image

Piles of rubbish are flooding one of Malta’s main tourism hotspots, Mellieħa, with photos sent to Lovin Malta showing the filthy aftermath of a weekend in the seaside town.

Images sent to this newsroom show mountains of rubbish lining the seafront nearby major entertainment establishments and mooring for pleasure cruises and private boats.

Piles upon piles are being left haphazardly in the area with residents complaining on how little is done to create an efficient waste management system that doesn’t leave the streets lined with rubbish bags.

Many have been left wondering why signs and notices of fines are even erected in the first place, with enforcement practically negligible.

Mellieħa is not alone in suffering from major waste problems with images of other tourist areas like St Julian’s and St Paul’s Bay showing that the issue is widespread across the country.

What can be done to solve Malta’s rubbish problem?
