Mellieħa’s Mayor has taken matters into his own hands, taking steps to stop the constant rubbish dumping in the pristine area of Armier Bay in Mellieħa, as trash bags slowly become a beachside landmark.

“I will never tolerate anyone turning the Mellieħa I grew up in into a rubbish dump when there are skips just a few steps away, which are emptied every day during the summer,” Dario Vella wrote on social media.

In a rallying cry to ensure that this finally stops, Vella explained how from now on everyone who is caught dumping rubbish in the area will be prosecuted.

“It is a shame that we have come to this point. We need to come together to finally have a better environment,” he said.

Mellieħa’s rubbish problem is not an isolated case, with other tourism zones such as St Paul’s Bay and Sliema experiencing a growing waste problem with trash bags often piling up on the streets.
