A 44-year-old Russian man lost his life yesterday while diving off the coast of Manoel Island in Gżira.

At around 5.3opm, police were informed of a man who was in difficulty while swimming in the area. 

Police and a medical team found the diver on the ground after he was removed from the sea by some people who were present with him.

He was given medical assistance immediately and was transported to Mater Dei hospital, however, he unfortunately died shortly after.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit has been informed and is leading an inquiry, while police investigations are still ongoing.
