A 51-year-old man from Santa Venera has been arrested and prosecuted for setting influencer Adrian Zammit’s car on fire.

Charles Mangion was prosecuted today, with police inspector Jeffrey Scicluna telling the court that Zammit’s car mini SUV was parked in Marsa when it was set on fire on the night between 29th and 30th October.

CCTV footage showed that Mangion arrived on site in a Toyota Starlet and drove around the area several times before throwing a blue bag under Zammit’s car, spreading liquid over it and setting it aflame.

Police immediately recognised Mangion as five of his cars had previously been set on fire, drawing suspicions, but no conclusive evidence, of insurance fraud.

Further CCTV footage from a garage complex in Qawra, near Mangion’s home, showed the suspect loading items into the Toyota before the arson attack and unloading them afterwards. A search of his garage also uncovered stolen number plates.

Mangion denied any involvement in the arson attack and is pleading not guilty, but magistrate Elaine Merceica turned down his request for bail after the prosecution argued that he is still the subject of ongoing investigations and two victims need to testify.

Zammit has yet to speak about the prosecution but he has informed his followers that he intends to publish a program this evening.
