A young Maltese man is set to have his very own video game available on leading consoles – including on PS5.

Ryan Portelli has been making games for over five years and is more than exhilarated to finally unveil his new game ‘Trenches’ on PS5.

‘Trenches’ is a horror title that takes players back to the first World War, where the player is a soldier trying to get back home safely from the mud-strewn trenches.

However, a horrifying entity roaming the trenches is after you – and it’s also listening to your every move through your console’s microphone!

The game was officially launched in 2019 on Steam, one of the world’s biggest gaming platforms.

“The process to launch a game on consoles is a bit more tedious since one has to work on all the optimisations necessary to make the game playable on console,” Portelli told Lovin Malta.

Portelli explains how much work and dedication the game required in order for it to be the way he wanted it.

“I have been working on Trenches for around seven months now and it’s been a wild ride.”

Trenches is set to be launched on the PS4, PS5, and also on Nintendo on 20th January.

Portelli told Lovin Malta how he learned every single aspect of gaming development through YouTube tutorials – he even showed us his first ever game he developed five years ago.

He also let us in on the behind-the-scenes of the game, sharing some never-before-seen renders.

Ryan may be among the first Maltese indie developers to have his game on the PS5, with him saying: “For now I haven’t heard about anyone. I would wish for there to be more Maltese developers to learn furthermore about console development.”
