Serbian Fan Arrested For Throwing Flare On Pitch During Ħamrun-Partizan European Qualifier
A Serbian football fan attending last night’s match between Ħamrun Spartans and Partizan Belgrade has been arrested for setting off a flare and throwing it on the pitch at the national stadium.
In a statement, the police said that the man, aged 34, smuggled the illegal material into the ground, set off in the stands, and threw it onto the pitch.
Police were quick to identify the suspect by analysing footage.
When police tried to approach the man, he attempted to flee but was eventually arrested.
He was taken to the police headquarters in Floriana and will face charges in the coming days.
Ħamrun Spartans had a mountain to climb during yesterday’s game as they attempted to overturn at 4-1 deficit from the first leg.
It was an admirable performance, managing to walk away with a 3-3 draw after being down two goals with just 20 minutes to go.
And while Partizan has qualified for the Europa Conference League, it was a fitting send-off to the Spartans’ impressive performance in the competition so far.
What do you think of the arrest?
