Serbs In Malta Hold Second Gathering In Solidarity With Student Movement In Serbia

A group of Serbs in Malta gathered in Valletta yesterday, in support of the ongoing student-led movement against corruption and government repression in Serbia.
The demonstration, held in front of the Triton Fountain, aimed to raise awareness among the Maltese public about the students’ fight for accountability and transparency.
The movement, which began following the collapse of the Novi Sad railway station on 1st November 2024, has seen students mobilising across over 400 cities in Serbia, organising bridge blockades, silent assemblies, and marches.

Their peaceful protests have now become the biggest challenge to President Aleksandar Vučić’s 12-year rule.
Despite Prime Minister Miloš Vučević’s resignation, he continues to act in his role, while two ministers have fled the country without any official accountability.
The European Parliament has condemned media repression in Serbia and called for investigations into the railway station collapse, but the Serbian government has responded with intensified crackdowns on activists, journalists, and protestors.
The gathering in Malta was part of a global wave of demonstrations, as Serbian communities around the world showed solidarity with hundreds of thousands of students who marched in Belgrade on the same day.
Organisers of the Valletta gathering reiterated the importance of international support, calling on the global community to stand with Serbian students and citizens in their fight against corruption and for a democratic future.
