‘Serial Environmental Rapist’: Graffitti And Matthew Caruana Galizia Call Out ERA Chief After Central Link Vote

Activist group Moviment Graffitti and Matthew Caruana Galizia have cast serious doubt on the credibility of Victor Axiak as chairperson of the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) after he voted in favour of the Central Link project earlier this week.

Axiak didn’t speak at all as the Planning Authority approved the Central Link project on Thursday, only intervening to vote in favour at the end of the session.

He later told MaltaToday that he attended the meeting with an open mind, but voted in favour of the project because it was in “the national interest” and because most arguments against it were “emotional”.

However, his argument didn’t rub with Moviment Graffitti, who dubbed Axiak a “serial environment rapist”.

“Victor Axiak sat quietly and unemotional during a whole PA session yesterday, like a biologist robot,” Graffitti commented. “His ‘open mind’ was incapable of processing the realities unfolding in front of him. His “open mind” treated Rabat’s farmers, or the residents of Attard, like the poor expendable losers in some Charlotte Bronte novel he’d been forced to study at school.”

“His ‘open mind’ was probably not open enough for him to consider that his own authority’s EIA just fell short of condemning the project, mentioning, unemotionally, issues of soil displacement, chopping off trees, pollution, the fact it won’t solve traffic issues, the general effects on the population… but it didn’t, because when push comes to shove, Axiak lacks the moral fibre to stand up for his beliefs.”

“In fact, for all his “open mind” Victor Axiak’s emotional circuitry lead him to play the calculating yes-man on the PA board. Axiak might not be the emotional type, but he knew full well what he was doing. He was following his Minister’s line on the project (Herrera implied the project had to happen because we’re not in the fifties anymore) and that of Ian Borg, the Lord of the Ringroads, who gallantly ran to offer his solidarity and maybe a high five.”

“Unemotionally, we think Victor Axiak should resign, and disappear from the Maltese ecosystem. Maybe take a long holiday, retire, enjoy the fruits of his hard work on the PA board, and call time on his career as a serial environmental rapist.”

Meanwhile, Matthew Caruana Galizia, the son of the assassinated journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, reminded people that Axiak had recently posted a holiday photo in the Italian countryside.

“Victor Axiak buys himself a holiday in the Italian countryside, admires the trees, flies back to Malta [and] votes to destroy our environment,” he said. “You pay the government a share of your income, that money goes to contractors so they can feed their tigers, snort cocaine on a boat in the Blue Lagoon, and buy T-shirts with massive GUCCI logos for their children. Mr Axiak goes on another holiday.”
