Sewage Leaking In Valletta’s Strait Street Disturbs Tourists And Businesses
A persistent sewage leak in Valletta’s Strait Street has disturbed tourists and business owners beyond the point of frustration.
“Imagine that you come here for dinner, and you sit down at a table on the street and you have this river of dirty water smelling like urine and faeces… are you staying?” the business owner told Lovin Malta.
“You can’t imagine how many tourists pass by here every day and how many slip and fall down the street cause of this leaking liquid. How can tourists have good memories of the Maltese capital?”
He also lamented how this is negatively affecting the international reputation of the capital city.
“Tourists complain many times with me about the capital city being full of dirty rubbish everywhere. Then add on a constant river of horrible-smelling sewage in this popular street,” he added.
“Everyone going back to their country will say: don’t go to Valletta, it’s full of shit,” he said.
The business owner also claimed that when he tried to contact the Valletta mayor, it did not improve the situation, also adding that the Environmental Health Directorate has long been informed about the problem.
Lovin Malta reached out to the Water Services Corporation to enquire whether it is aware of the said leak.
“Our team visited the location and confirmed that this is a private house connection issue,” a spokesperson for WSC said. It also added that this will now fall under the Environmental Health Directorate.
Lovin Malta has sent all details of the leak to the aforementioned department.
