Sexual Advances On Team Malta Player Behind Coach Devis Mangia Suspension
Allegations of sexual misconduct are behind the suspension of the Malta National Football Team coach Devis Mangia.
Lovin Malta is informed that one prominent player, who plays with the National team, allegedly suffered repeated sexual advances from Mangia during his time as coach. A recording of one such advance is reportedly being investigated by the police.
Mangia, 48, was suspended from his role earlier today over a breach of policy, the Malta Football Association said earlier this morning.
When Lovin Malta reached out to find out more, the MFA said an executive board meeting is to be held to discuss the situation tomorrow.
“The Association will not comment any further until the next steps are discussed within the respective decision-making bodies in an open and transparent manner,” it said in a statement.
“Mangia has given his full availability for the facts of the matter to be established,” it continued, indicating Mangia’s full cooperation.
“For the match against Israel, the team will be led by Assistant Coach Davide Mazzotta,” it said.
Mangia is an Italian association football manager and has been in charge of the Malta national football team since 2019, with his contract valid until next year.
During his time leading the Malta National Team, the football club has received some great results for the nation, such as wins over Gibraltar and Latvia.
However, this is not the first time Mangia has been in international media over his conduct. Italian media house Il Centro reported in 2016 that Mangia had issues with players who had complained about his behaviour as rumours swirled over what could have led to his problems with the team.
What do you make of Mangia’s situation?
