Everyone from his family to mayors and former football colleagues shared their grief over Vidal’s death after he was seriously injured in a fire in Marsamxett, Valletta, on 3rd September.

“From Sliema Wanderers FC Nursery, to playing with the National Team together, to playing against each other, and also playing together again with Gżira United Football Club, we always enjoyed each other’s company and had very big respect for each other,” football colleague Liam Mangion shared alongside some nostalgic photos from Vidal’s past.

“A very sad story to find out that a lovely soul has left us – Liam Vidal may you rest in peace my friend and condolences to all your family. I want to remember you for your cheeky smile and the talent you possessed with the ball at your feet. We will definitely kick a ball together in heaven when we meet again, legend.”

Valletta FC fans simply said: “We have lost one of us. RIP Liam Vidal.”

Ta’ Xbiex mayor Max Zammit said the community had lost a friend.

And some of Valletta’s very own just could’t hold back from sharing their despair after one of their own lost his life.

Since his death, police are excluding foul play and consider the case closed.

Vidal died earlier today, a few days after he was found lying next to his burning vehicle in Marsamxett on 3rd September.

A magisterial inquiry is still currently on going and is being led by Yana Micallef Stafrace.
