A 44-year-old Maltese man has been left grievously injured after being shot in Ta’ Xbiex early this morning.

Police received a report at around 2:10 am that an incident had broken out in Testaferrata Street, Ta’ Xbiex. When they arrived on the scene, a man was found injured with a gunshot wound after an argument broke out between at least two people.

The man, who lives in Msida, was taken to hospital where he was confirmed to have been grievously injured from the gunshot.

A man has been held by the police and is assisting them in their investigations.

Magistrate Frendo Dimech has appointed various court experts to assist in the inquiry.
