Siblings Under State Care Can Now Be Raised Together In New Specialised Homes In Malta
Siblings under state care in Malta can be raised together, and not have to be separated, as a number of new specialised homes have been built for that purpose.
“We’ve introduced, for the first time, the concept of homes for siblings to be able to be raised together,” Family Minister Michael Falzon said on World Children’s Day.
“Right now, there are three homes for siblings in alternative care, and in a few more weeks there will be the fourth home that can home up to three siblings,” he explained.
He went on to say that the government wants to see each and every child “reach their potential” and not fall behind.
These homes are for children who cannot live with their biological parents, for a variety of reasons.
Falzon noted that around €12 million a yer went towards social investments such as these, including helping support NGOs and homes run by the Church.
Do you think more homes of this type need to be available in Malta?
