Six Maltese Tourists Hospitalised After Nasty Minibus Head-On Collision In Sicily

Six Maltese tourists in Sicily had to be hospitalised following a nasty head-on collision between the minibus they were travelling in and Volkswagen T-Roc.
The incident, which happened yesterday on Via Peppino Impastato between Pozzallo and Modica and was widely reported on local media, left eight people injured in total, with the three men and three women in the Maltese group having to be rushed to hospital.
The occupant of the car’s front seat had to be taken to Catania’s Cannizzaro by helicopter, while the others were transported to the Modica hospital. Three of the Maltese people were taken to another hospital in Ragusa.

It is being reported that five of the six Maltese tourists remain in hospital, with a Foreign Affairs Minister saying one woman suffered a broken hip while the other passengers suffered injuries including a broken jaw, fractured elbow and fractured shoulder. Another woman needs hip surgery.
Talks are reportedly underway between the Maltese and Italian health authorities for the woman to be brought back to Malta via air ambulance, with the Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson telling the Times Of Malta that the Maltese Embassy in Rome and the consul in Catania have been in constant contact with the Maltese tourists.
Here’s wishing a speedy recovery to everyone involved in this accident.
