Six Paqpaqli Organisers Ordered To Over 1,000 Hours Of Community Service After 2015 Nightmare Crash

Six organisers behind Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina, a now-defunct car show gone wrong, have been sentenced to over 1,000 hours of community service after one of the sports cars crashed into the crowds in 2015.
All members of the organisation committee and the driver of the Porsche 918 Spyder were charged over injuries to injuries to 26 spectators and damages to property.
While initially pleading not guilty, the members registered an admission and were ordered to perform 1,275 hours of community service between them.
Almost 10 years after the nightmare accident which saw a car lose control and crash into crowds, things in court took an unexpected turn when supercar driver and millionaire Paul Bailey changed his plea to guilty two months ago.
He was ordered to do 300 hours of community service, informing the court that he would carry out the work with Puttinu Cares in the UK.
That same day, Angelo Manara registered an admission and was sentenced to 200 hours of community service at Hospice Malta, while shouldering one-thirteenth of total court expenses.
Lawyers for the rest each told the court today that they intended to do the same, and were ordered to around 200 hours each.
These changes of plea mean that the rest of the committee, i.e. five people, will continue sticking to their plea of not guilty.
In 2018, eleven spectators who were injured when a supercar veered off the tracks during the 2015 Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina event received €3.5 million in compensation.
The case continues.
