The Sliema local council clarified that it issues special permits for people to drive on the promenade to service events or maintain public spaces in Ġnien Indipendenza.

A video published by Lovin Malta this week showed a man driving along the Sliema promenade at night.

The man had a permit to drive on the promenade so as to deliver food to a voluntary organisation after an event held by PN leader candidate Adrian Delia at the Gardens.

The council then clarified that special permits to drive on the promenade are commonly granted for cultural events, tree pruning, water bowers for irrigation and government contractors.

“These permits come with strict conditions on speed, access times, and safety. Breaches result in fines or suspension,” the council said.

“The Council remains committed to keeping the promenade safe, clean, and functional for all.”
