Sliema Ferries Landing Terminal Still Not Complete Four Years On

The Sliema ferries landing terminal upgrade has experienced an unreasonable delay of three years.

The project, which was announced in 2018, involves a €5 million investment and includes the construction of a new ferry landing site in Cospicua.

The upgrading of the terminal on the Strand was expected to be completed by 2020, but the new terminal has still not been completed.

Initially, the delay in the project was attributed to the rough sea and a contractor failing to meet established deadlines.

However, after all this time, it appears that the project has been neglected. This delay has also caused inconvenience to the public, as the project has been encumbering a large piece of the promenade for an extended period, limiting the already little public space in the area.

The project involves the construction of complex quay structures that go down almost three storeys underwater and are supported on concrete piles drilled even deeper into the seabed.

The new ferry landing areas will include a sheltered waiting area and safer embarkation ramps.

According to an Infrastructure Malta spokesperson, the ferry landing services will be completed and running by the third quarter of 2023.

While this is welcome news, it is still disappointing that the project has been so delayed.

It is important that infrastructure projects are completed on time to avoid causing inconvenience to the public and to ensure that the investment benefits the community in a timely manner.

The delay in the completion of the Sliema ferries landing terminal upgrade is unacceptable. The public has been inconvenienced for too long.

It is crucial that the project is completed as soon as possible. The investment in the infrastructure is essential to improve the transport system in the area and benefit the community.

Do you think the project will be completed by the new deadline?
