Sliema Hotel Developers Ordered To Stop Works Until Damages Repaired

The developers of a Sliema hotel have been ordered by the authorities to repair all damages caused by their works until further work can proceed.
The Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) issued a stop order yesterday, and a meeting was held between the OHSA, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the developer today to assess the situation.
Some works on the site were ongoing up until yesterday as a video sent to Lovin Malta shows. The authorities didn’t clarify whether this was in breach of the stop order or not.
The authorities pledged to keep affected residents updated about the situation and offer assistance where needed, and encouraged the public to report similar cases via the 138 helpline.
This site is located at the back of the ST Hotel, owned by Malta Development Association President Michael Stivala who is demolishing it to redevelop a four-star hotel under the Accord Mövenpick brand.
Neighbour Joe Farrugia told the Times that the construction works left a gaping hole in his residence wall, but Stivala denied that the damage was inflicted by their works. He also warned that the owners of the neighbouring property had “built part of their building illegally, encroaching on our property.”
