Some Of June’s Hottest Ever Days Took Place Over The Last 4 Years In Malta
As temperatures seemingly continue to rise, data has shown that the hottest days recorded in June over the last four years are some of the warmest they’ve been for over a decade.
Lovin Malta reached out to a representative at the Malta Airport to obtain the data showing the warmest summer temperatures from 2012 up until 2022.
2021’s June saw the highest ever recorded temperature in Maltese history, at a whopping 41.5 degrees, breaking the overall record.
In 2019, which was the hottest June on record on average in 96 years, reached a high of 37.8 degrees. The last time a June in Malta recorded such consistently high numbers was in 1923.
The highest temperature recorded in June 2019 was the highest ever until 2021 came along.
While 2020 saw one of the lowest temperatures, at 32.8 degrees, temperatures rose over the last two years.
The trend of hot June days has continued in 2022, with the maximum temperature recorded standing at 38 degrees, recorded on 24th June.
In previous years, the maximum temperature was as low as 30 degrees and 36.5 degrees, rarely exceeding 37 degrees.
The Maltese islands are set to suffer moderate effects from global warming, with a potential rise in annual average temperature in the range 0.53 – 1.32 degrees projected by 2030.
There is also a 50% chance that the mean temperature recorded annually over the Maltese islands will rise by a further three degrees by the end of the 21st century.
