The Spanish government has intervened and opened its ports to an NGO vessel carrying more than 100 migrants stranded outside Malta, placing the blame on Italy’s “inconceivable” closure all ports to NGOs.

The vessel has been stranded outside Maltese territorial waters just off the coast of Lampedusa.

The vessel entered into Italian waters after a judge ruled against Matteo Salvini’s ban.

The migrants were initially saved on 1st August off the coast of Libya. At the time, the Maltese government offered to take 38 migrants. However, the NGO refused. insisting that Malta should take all the migrants or none at all.

Another migrant rescue vessel carrying over 300 people remains in limbo on the Mediterranean sea.
