The San Giljan Band Club is the latest to announce the banning of balloons from their local feast. Following suit of a number of clubs around the island, the initiative is spreading like wildfire.

In a post on Facebook made this morning, the group Briju Giljaniz said, “From this year no balloons will be used (around 1000 balloons during Sunday morning March), during the marches organized by St. Julian’s Band Club, due to the harm they cause to our environment, especially to the seas that surround us.” Flags will instead be distributed to the public.

St Julian’s joins Qormi, Luqa, Siggiewi and Mgarr in the ban. The initiative is spearheaded by Cami Applegren – because there is literally nothing this woman can’t do. Speaking of the announcement, Cami let the public know, “there is NO need to wait for a law to do what’s right.”
