Stalking And Harassment Have Been Reported Over 800 Times In Malta In Past Four Years
There have been 844 reports of harassment and stalking since 2019, according to police figures sent to Lovin Malta.
These numbers have been split into three different categories: domestic violence (stalking), threats and private violence (harassment) and threats and private violence (stalking).
The highest number of reports consistently occurred in the threats and private violence (harassment) category which saw a grand total of 655 reports over the last four years, with the highest number registered 2021 when 191 reports were filed.
Meanwhile, the least reported crime category was threats and private violence (stalking), with 72 reports over the last four years.
Domestic violence (stalking) was reported 117 times since 2019, with 2021 having the highest instance of reports at 43.
The number of reports does not reflect the number of different people, solely the number of instances reported.
Police weren’t able to provide information on how many of these reports ended up in convictions, and Lovin Malta has sent questions to the Justice Ministry in this regard.
